Tidbits of Joy #50 - Service and Our Voice

Dear AdNet Employees, Clients and Friends;

Thank you, Sydney Blondell, for writing this weeks Tidbits of Joy. 😊

November is a month meant for thanks. It is a time to reflect on the past year and catalog all the blessings we currently have. One blessing that America has is democracy. Americans are privileged to have this blessing because not all countries in the world allows its population to have a say in who represents our cities, states, and nation. Whether you voted red, blue, or purple, it was so important to get out to the polls each election to make your voice known and heard.

Another blessing Americans often reflect on this time of year are our veterans. So many brave men and women enter different branches of our military at the very young age of eighteen and are willing to sacrifice their lives, if it comes to that point, to protect our freedoms the country was founded on. About a week ago, I was at my local Family Dollar, and I encountered a Vietnam vet. I could see that he was struggling to open the store’s door and push his cart inside, so I quickly rushed to the door to hold it open for him. The amount of shock and gratitude that I received from this older gentleman saddened me because it was apparent people don’t often give him a second thought or are willing to help him when he is in public.

So many of our veterans carry such pride in their service, often wearing ball caps identifying the war they served in, and yet veterans are often overlooked once their tour is completed. Rather than idolizing actors and professional athletes, Americans need to put more of an emphasis on praising the heroes of our country and supporting their daily needs once they come home. Many people choose this time of year to make donations to different charities, and I urge you to consider donating to charities that are dedicated to supporting the needs of veterans in America. Two charities that we recommend are K9s for Warriors, which helps place trained service dogs with veterans suffering with PTSD, and Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) which is a charity that provides injured 9/11 veterans with custom built homes with their disabilities in mind.

To all our clients and employees who have served our country, on behalf of everyone on the AdNet team, we thank you wholeheartedly for your service.
