Dear AdNet Employees, Clients, and Friends:
Recently, I watched a new Netflix documentary about the making of the single We Are The World in 1985. It brings back memories of a time of carefreeness and seeing many of the performers in concert. This diverse group of gifted performers aligned to raise money for famine relief in Africa which was spearheaded by Harry Belafonte. They made the video look seamless, yet the process took over 8 hours to perfectly pair voices for each part. They stood in a circle to sing their respective parts, not only to produce the song but to sing with each other. All the efforts in making the single, the album and the video, were volunteer and the $60 million raised went for humanitarian aid in Africa. The work of USA for Africa still exists today.
Music transcends differences and it brings people together. “We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start giving”. These words are even more powerful in 2024. We need to give, not take, we need to listen, not close off possibility, we need to include and not exclude. I could down the list and you get it. It is more urgent where we need to lead with compassion, live with integrity, be kind and just plain love each other more.
I have faith that the power of our collective love will overcome the noise of hate that seems to surround us. As we are all working hard today, click on the link, raise your speaker volume, and sing along to one of the most powerful songs ever created.
