Tidbits of Joy #25 - Martin Luther King Jr. and Leadership

Dear Employees, Clients, and Friends;

Martin Luther King’s legacy of peace and hope still rings brightly today. Our country is in need of rays of hope more than ever as we head into 2021. On this day, I take the time to listen intently to his “I Have a Dream” speech. I invite you to listen to the speech and feel every word: I Have A Dream Speech.

My favorite quote from Dr. King is:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”

When we surround ourselves with loving and kind people, their energy brings us joy. When we are surrounded by negativity and toxicity, we feel stress. In 2021, I have made a conscious choice to interact with kindness rather than allow another’s negativity or toxic behaviors influence my day. That has meant reading uplifting content and less news as well as steering away from people who complain without offering solution.

Keep the darkness at arm’s length because there are times in business and life, that we have to interact with toxic behaviors to get things done. When it gets challenging, remember that “only light drives out darkness and love drives out hate.” Staying true to who you are creates a thriving environment grounded in well-being for you and your team.
