Tidbits of Joy #92 - Black or White

Dear AdNet Employees, Clients and Friends;
I recently watched Michael Jackson’s video Black or White and in listening to the words, his message is more relevant today than in the 1980’s. Somehow we are still faced with some of the same struggles in our world though now things feel more intense. So how do we handle it? One can close their eyes if it doesn’t impact them directly, which is what I see most often, or we can dig deep into the root cause and widen our breath of understanding towards a solution. Recently someone said to me “it’s not my fault”. Well, yes, it is, if you registered your approval indirectly or directly….because your “yes” was part of the cascade of harm. Own it!!
Life is not black or white. It’s a rainbow of many colors, many thoughts, many songs, many beliefs and that is what our world must embrace for us to rise above fear. We all look different yet that is part of the puzzle of life. We are not our family of origin, we are not our relationships, we are not our wounds, we are not our careers. We are exquisite fabrics woven together to be part of a common goal for peace. Family, relationships, wounds, careers, etc., are part of that beautiful fabric yet those journeys don’t have to define us. I sure am grateful that I continue to do inner work to understand my journey in life. Humanity is beautiful and messy all at the same time. For those who know me, I am a very proud female 60+ year old who is an “L” in the LGBTQ community. And I am a warrior walking through fire to protect the people I love, the communities I represent, the employees I serve and doing the right thing.
I ask you as we enter into holidays of new beginnings and watch new growth in our gardens, to be willing to listen and hear that the world is not black or white. If you are joyful, share your joy with someone who is hurting. If you are hurting, surround yourself with joyful energy. If you have had loss, feel the loss and find the beauty in getting to wake up each fresh new day. If you need to move away from a hurtful relationship, find the courage to do it….find your joy, find your tribe.
When one looks at my family, we are an exquisite and often times silly mix with multiple moms, shared values, different beliefs, multi-lingual & cultures who are not black or white. We are one blended unit loving the heck out of each other through the best of times and the challenges. My wife, kids, grandkids, and bonus in-laws and kids are my wheel of color, my anchor, my heart. I love you beyond what I can ever write.
